Our Boxelder base is a classic non-superwash Merino wool that is very smooth, consistent and ultra soft with a micron count of 20.5. Dyes appear matte, while speckles and layers of color are blurred creating a watercolor effect. Our Boxelder base is a great plastic free non-superwash wool that doesn't sacrifice in softness.
Although our Boxelder base appears as a 2 ply construction it is actually a 4 ply yarn. Two plies are spun together and spun again with an addition two plies. This appears to be a 2 ply yarn, as there are only two ends, but within each end lies 2 individual plies. This 4 ply construction creates a strong, smooth, balanced yarn.
Boxelder Organic is the latest version of our 4 ply non-superwash wool line. This base has 1 yard more per 100 grams, the same fiber content and 4 ply construction of our classic Boxelder base, however at 26 microns it has a sturdier more crisp hand. I wouldn't classify it as a rustic yarn as it has no prickle or itch factor, though it does have a coarser feel than our classic Boxelder base. Boxelder Organic is great for knitting sturdy, plastic free, non-superwash socks and hard wearing garments. I couldn't help but fall in love with the way this base soaks up dye. It has a subtle heatherd effect, with a matte finish. Speckles vary between crisp and blurred creating a nice watercolor effect.
